The long-standing dialogue between Somaliland and Somalia officially recommenced on Thursday evening in Djibouti, with an introductory meeting held between the presidents of both sides. Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi first engaged in discussions with the President of Djibouti upon landing at Djibouti Capital Airport before proceeding to the scheduled meeting with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
A press release issued by the Somaliland Presidency stated, “The President of the Republic of Somaliland and his delegation were received at the Presidential Palace of Djibouti, directly participating in the scheduled meeting of the presidents of Somaliland, Djibouti, and Somalia.”
The tripartite meeting aims to revive talks between Somaliland and Somalia, which commenced in 2012 and have experienced periods of interruption.
The talks, extending for more than a decade, have yet to yield concrete results, leading to skepticism about the potential outcomes of this renewed engagement.
As discussions unfold, the international community observes closely, hopeful that this meeting in Djibouti will mark a positive turning point in the diplomatic efforts between Somaliland and Somalia.
