The Puntland federal member State Police Chief Gen. Abdi Hassan Hussein Abdi Yare in Gardo, Bari region spoke to security officials about increasing security operations in wake of electioneering period.
Gen. Abdi Yare warned the police not to get involved in politics but to perform their duty to ensure security and to serve the Country.
“I don’t think there is a better place in all of Somalia (than here) but we need to step up our efforts to achieve stability. The transition to a party system is a good thing but any soldier can vote but he cannot join and I warn that Soldiers against their involvement in politics ”. said the Puntland Police Chief.
The Puntland federal member State government has focused on securing the region several times in the wake of several bombings carried out by al-Shabab and more forced have been deployed to the region to increase security patrols and fight such attacks in future.
Recently, the involvement of security forces in the National politics has caused panic and political turmoil when forces took side and confrontation happened at the heart of the capital Mogadishu following the failed attempt by the government to extend term by two years. The army was divided by the move.
