{"id":9247,"date":"2018-10-14T10:32:18","date_gmt":"2018-10-14T09:32:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mustaqbalradio.net\/?p=9247"},"modified":"2018-10-14T10:33:12","modified_gmt":"2018-10-14T09:33:12","slug":"un-special-envoy-haysom-pays-tribute-to-victims-of-14-october-2017-explosion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mustaqbalmedia.net\/so\/un-special-envoy-haysom-pays-tribute-to-victims-of-14-october-2017-explosion\/","title":{"rendered":"UN Special Envoy Haysom pays tribute to victims of 14 October 2017 explosion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UNSOM Press Statement:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Mogadishu, 14 October 2018 \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) for Somalia, Nicholas Haysom, expressed his solidarity with the victims of a devastating suicide bombing in central Mogadishu a year ago during a brief ceremony today at the main United Nations compound in the Somali capital.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The explosion killed at least 587 people and ranks as the deadliest ever terrorist attack in Africa involving the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Another 316 people were injured in the blast, and among the fatalities was the United Nations Development Programme staff member Faiza Sheikh Mohamud.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAs we honour the memories of the deceased this day, I call upon the forces of violent extremism to refrain from using IEDs as a weapon of insurgency,\u201d said Mr. Haysom. \u201cOwing to the indiscriminate nature of IED attacks, most of the victims are usually innocent civilians &#8212; men, women and children.
