None of the injuries is life-threatening.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Guterres wished the injured a speedy recovery and urged the Somali authorities to \u201cinvestigate the attacks and swiftly bring those responsible to justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Secretary-General reaffirmed that \u201csuch acts will not diminish the strong resolve of the United Nations to continue supporting the people and Government of Somalia in their efforts to build peace and stability in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8216;Investigate the attacks and swiftly bring those responsible to justice &#8212;\u00a0<em>UN chief<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Meanwhile, Nicholas Haysom, his Special Representative in the country and head of the Assistance Mission UNSOM, condemned the attack \u201cin the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/reliefweb.int\/report\/somalia\/special-un-envoy-somalia-condemns-indirect-fire-attack-un-compound-mogadishu\">strongest possible terms<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Al-Shabaab has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Deploring the \u201cunwarranted act of aggression against our personnel,\u201d Mr. Haysom stressed that \u201cno political agenda can be served through violence that deliberately targets staff members of international organizations who are supporting the consolidation of peace and the strengthening of governing institutions in Somalia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hours later, news media reported that the Somali Government declared Mr. Haysom<em>\u00a0persona non-grata<\/em>\u00a0and asked him to leave the country, saying\u00a0that he violated international diplomatic norms by interfering in the State\u2019s national sovereignty.<\/p>\n<p>The unfolding news reports detailed that on Monday, the UN diplomat wrote the Somali government a letter asking it, among other things, to explain the legal basis for arresting Mukhtar Robow, the former al-Shabab deputy leader who was the main challenger in the South West State elections for regional presidency.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source: UN News\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8216;United Nations Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres strongly condemned Tuesday\u2019s attacks against the UN compound in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, saying that intentionally attacking UN personnel may constitute &#8220;a violation of international humanitarian law.\u201d Seven mortars landed inside the compound, injuring two UN staff members and one contractor.
