Senior officials from Somalia\u2019s Federal Government and South West State on Friday attended the funeral of two senior military commanders who were killed during clashes on the outskirts of Baidoa in Baay region.<\/p>\n
The ceremony, held in Baidoa, was conducted for the commanders of the 8th and 9th Brigades of the Somali National Army, who lost their lives in fighting that erupted a day earlier near the regional capital.<\/p>\n
Among those attending the funeral were the acting leader of South West State, Jibril Abdirashid Haji, the Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament, federal ministers, members of parliament, regional officials, and other senior representatives from both the federal and state administrations.<\/p>\n
Speaking during the funeral, Acting South West State leader Jibril Abdirashid Haji praised the fallen officers, stating that they sacrificed their lives in defense of civilians and in efforts to maintain security in the region.<\/p>\n
The commanders were reportedly among key figures involved in operations that led to the removal of former South West State President Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen from power in Baidoa. Reports indicate that forces loyal to Laftagareen are currently regrouping in parts of Baay region amid rising tensions and ongoing security operations.<\/p>\n
