The Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia held its weekly meeting on Thursday, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama, who is currently serving as Acting Prime Minister.<\/p>\n
The session focused on critical national matters, including progress in electoral preparations, the administration of local governments, and the approval of key laws and international agreements.<\/p>\n
The National Independent Electoral Commission and the Boundary Commission briefed the Cabinet on ongoing preparations for the upcoming one-person-one-vote local elections, particularly voter registration efforts in the Banadir region. The commissions confirmed that the provisional voter list had been completed and that elections for Mogadishu\u2019s local council are scheduled for November 30, 2025.<\/p>\n
In addition, the Cabinet approved a proposal from the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation regarding the classification of Banadir\u2019s districts in line with the Electoral Law.The Cabinet approved the official ranking of Benadir districts (9 Grade A, 7 Grade B) ahead of the November 30th local council elections.
\nAccording to the resolution, the districts designated as Category A include Hodan, Yaqshid, Deynile, Karaan, Dharkenley, Wadajir, Warta Nabadda, Heliwaa, and Howlwadaag. Category B districts were listed as Waaberi, Shibis, Xamar Jajab, Boondheere, Xamar Weyne, Abdiaziz, and Shangani.<\/p>\n
The Council also approved four key legislative and policy documents:<\/p>\n
1. The Regulatory Framework for the National Institute for Security and Strategic Studies.<\/p>\n
2. The Somali Police Act.<\/p>\n
3. The Agreement on the Protection and Utilization of Transboundary Rivers and International Lakes.(water Convention)<\/p>\n
4. The Regulatory Framework for the Establishment of National Fishing Companies.<\/p>\n
The Cabinet underscored the government\u2019s commitment to ensuring transparent and inclusive local elections, enhancing governance at the municipal level, and advancing key reforms to strengthen national institutions and sustainable resource management.<\/p>\n
