Reports have emerged detailing a major agreement between the President of South West State, Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen, and the head of the Kuwait-based company Arab Digital Holding.
\nThe agreement reportedly grants the company the management of Baraawe Port for a period of 25 years.<\/p>\n
According to reports published on various platforms, the deal is valued at $500 million and aims to modernize and expand the port with state-of-the-art infrastructure.<\/p>\n
The Kuwaiti company will collaborate with MYD, an Egyptian firm, to carry out the port’s development, focusing on upgrading maritime facilities and commercial zones to attract significant economic activity.<\/p>\n
Fahad Nawaaf Al Doosari, the Vice Chairman of Arab Digital Holding, stated that the agreement allows the company to undertake multiple projects, including resource exploration and port construction.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that the implementation phase would begin within four years, pending formal approval from the South West administration.<\/p>\n
Al Doosari further revealed that financial backing for the project will come from Gulf-based companies and Arab banks, which will provide the necessary funding for the first phase.<\/p>\n
He dismissed any claims that the deal includes restrictive clauses that would limit the company\u2019s operations.<\/p>\n
The development of Baraawe Port is expected to have far-reaching economic benefits for multiple countries in the region, including Ethiopia, South Sudan, Northeastern Kenya, Central Africa, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.<\/p>\n
These nations could utilize the upgraded port for trade and logistics, enhancing regional connectivity.<\/p>\n
The project will cover an area of 200 square kilometers, with initial survey and assessment work set to begin in the coming months. The primary goal is to complete the planned developments within the agreed timeframe and ensure long-term economic returns.<\/p>\n
