Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to take steps that would alleviate Somalia\u2019s concerns regarding its unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. This call was made during a recent phone conversation between the two leaders, emphasizing Turkey\u2019s role in mediating tensions between Somalia and Ethiopia.<\/p>\n
Erdogan highlighted that addressing these concerns is crucial for facilitating the ongoing mediation process aimed at resolving the disputes between the neighboring countries. The tensions primarily stem from a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Ethiopia and Somaliland, which has led to strained relations with Somalia.<\/p>\n
During the phone call, Erdogan reiterated Turkey\u2019s commitment to ending the discord and underscored the importance of Ethiopia’s actions in restoring stability. He noted that Ethiopia\u2019s efforts to respect Somalia\u2019s territorial integrity and sovereignty would be a key factor in easing the current tensions.<\/p>\n
The Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, also confirmed that delegations from Somalia and Ethiopia are scheduled to meet in Ankara next week to discuss the matter further.
