Somalia has withdrawn its candidate from the race for the chairmanship of the African Union (AU) Commission. Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and current Member of Parliament, Fowsiyo Yusuf Haji Adan, has exited the competition, leaving the field open for the remaining contenders.<\/p>\n
Fowsiyo Yusuf Adan was initially in the running for the prestigious position, but recent reports indicate that she has decided to withdraw her candidacy. The deadline for submitting applications was August 6, and Adan\u2019s departure means she will not be among the final candidates.<\/p>\n
Adan had previously accused Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and several regional leaders of pressuring her to withdraw from the race. Despite her resistance to this request, she has ultimately chosen to step aside.<\/p>\n
The withdrawal of Somalia and Seychelles’ candidates has cleared the way for a more focused competition. As of now, four candidates remain in the race for the AU Commission chairmanship. Among them is former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who has gained significant momentum following the withdrawals. Other candidates include Djibouti\u2019s Foreign Minister Mohamud Ali Yusuf, a diplomat from Mauritius, and a representative from Madagascar.<\/p>\n
