This significant achievement marks a milestone in Somalia&#8217;s development and governance, reflecting its growing influence on the global stage.<\/p>\n<p>President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud celebrated the election, describing it as a pivotal moment in the nation\u2019s journey towards peace and stability. &#8220;This victory amplifies Somalia&#8217;s voice for peace and cooperation globally,&#8221; he stated, emphasizing the importance of Somalia\u2019s role in international affairs.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre also extended his congratulations to the Somali people for the successful bid. He highlighted the nation\u2019s commitment to establishing a prominent presence on the global stage and addressing pressing global challenges and security issues. &#8220;This milestone signals Somalia&#8217;s dedication to actively engaging in international affairs and contributing to the maintenance of peace and security on a global scale,&#8221; the Prime Minister underscored.<\/p>\n<p>The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Executive Secretary, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, congratulated the Federal Republic of Somalia on its election. &#8220;This is a testament to the resilience and progress of the Somali people,&#8221; he remarked, acknowledging Somalia&#8217;s strides towards peace, stability, and prosperity.<\/p>\n<p>The United Nations in Somalia (UNSOM) also issued a statement congratulating the Somali government and people. &#8220;Somalia\u2019s election today to a seat on the UN Security Council for 2025-26 is a recognition of the progress it has made on its path to peace, stability, and prosperity,&#8221; the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>Somalia secured 179 votes in the General Assembly, demonstrating strong international support. The country will join Denmark, Greece, Pakistan, and Panama as new non-permanent members, replacing Mozambique, Switzerland, Malta, Japan, and Ecuador.
