House\u00a0Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy\u2019s pledge to block Democratic Reps. Eric Swalwell, Adam Schiff and \u201cSquad\u201d member Ilhan Omar from committees next Congress drew a strong response from the lawmakers.<\/p>\n
Omar, a Minnesota Democrat who has been accused of making\u00a0antisemitic statements, claimed that McCarthy\u2019s pledge was just another example of her being targeted by Republicans.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the moment I was elected, the Republican Party has made it their mission to use fear, xenophobia, Islamophobia and racism to target me on the House Floor and through millions of dollars of campaign ads,\u201d said Omar. \u201cMcCarthy\u2019s effort to repeatedly single me out for scorn and hatred\u2013including threatening to strip me from my committee\u2013does nothing to address the issues our constituents deal with. It does nothing to address inflation, healthcare, or solve the climate crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n
Omar said the \u201cconstant stream of hate\u201d from conservatives has led \u201cled to hundreds of death threats and credible plots against me and my family.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat who has been accused of making antisemitic statements, claimed that McCarthy\u2019s pledge was just another example of her being targeted by Republicans.<\/p>\n
\u201cInstead of doing anything to address the open hostility towards religious minorities in his party, McCarthy is now lifting up people like Marjorie Taylor Greene \u2026 and so many others,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
McCarthy, the Republican designee for the next House speaker, told Fox News\u2019 Maria Bartiromo on Sunday that when his party takes control of the House in January, it will make good on a long-held promise to bar Omar, Schiff and Swalwell from committees.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne thing I said from the very beginning, Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the public sector,\u201d said McCarthy. \u201cWhy would we ever give him a security clearance and the secrets to America? So, I will not allow him to be on\u201d the House Intelligence Committee.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlease circle back if Kevin McCarthy becomes speaker,\u201d a spokeswoman for Rep. Eric Swalwell told Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou have Adam Schiff, who lied to the American public time and again \u2013 we will not allow him to be on the [Intlligence] Committee either,\u201d McCarthy added. \u201cLook at\u00a0Congresswoman Omar, her antisemitic comments that have gone forward. We\u2019re not going to allow her to be on Foreign Affairs.\u201d<\/p>\n
Schiff\u2019s office did not return request for comment on this story. Swalwell\u2019s congressional office, meanwhile, was un-phased by McCarthy\u2019s pledge.<\/p>\n
