Drought in Somalia is causing\u00a0 serious problems for the people living in the areas where water and food shortages are prevalent in the south of the country.<\/p>\n
Unofficial figures travel daily from districts across the country to areas where they see access to food and water, which is in dire need.<\/p>\n
Hirsiyo Mohamed is one of the people negatively affected by the drought, she said after walking long distance she and some of her children reached Dolow District in Gedo Region.<\/p>\n
Of her eight children, Hirsi said, two of them died of starvation and thirst, forcing them to flee for their lives and flee to areas where they felt they could get living.<\/p>\n
Dolow district has camps set up for IDPs, mostly from Bay, Bakool regions in South West state and districts in Gedo Jubbaland\u00a0 in the same district.<\/p>\n
Authorities in Gedo and Dolow districts told Mustaqbal that the reason the people gathered in the district was because there were agencies under UN .<\/p>\n
But officials say the planned assistance to IDPs is inadequate, and some families have traveled by road to Dolow for four days or more.<\/p>\n
The United Nations says drought in Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya has negatively affected nearly 20 million people, with planned relief reaching 18%, and that if the drought continues, the situation could worsen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
