The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has issued a report on the condition of children in Somalia following an interruption in the assistance being provided to them.
In response, UNICEF is urging the international community to step in immediately to support affected children.
UNICEF emphasized that rapid emergency aid can play a vital role in protecting millions of children who are facing severe risks, including lack of food, malnutrition, and other life-threatening conditions across Somalia.
The report also notes that the United States and other organizations have suspended some of their support to humanitarian agencies that deliver nutritional supplies for Somali children.
Since those changes, concerns have grown about children being left without help during a period of worsening vulnerability.
UNICEF’s call highlights the urgency of restoring and expanding support to ensure children receive the nutrition and protection they need right now.
Aid is essential for children because it helps ensure immediate access to life-saving essentials such as nutritious food, clean water, healthcare, and protection from hunger and preventable illness.
When aid is disrupted, the consequences can be devastating especially for the youngest and most vulnerable making urgent support critical to keeping children safe and healthy.
