U.S. Ambassador to Somalia Richard Riley met with Somali Attorney General Mohamed Mohamud on Monday to deepen collaboration in fighting money laundering and terrorist financing.
The meeting focused on joint efforts to secure Somalia’s financial system and disrupt criminal enterprises that provide funding to al-Shabaab and ISIS.
“The United States and Somalia are working closely to cut off illicit financial flows and protect the integrity of Somalia’s economy,” Ambassador Riley said.
Ambassador Riley reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Somalia’s financial governance reforms, noting that effective collaboration would not only weaken terror financing networks but also boost investor confidence in Somalia’s banking system.
Both sides pledged to enhance training and capacity-building for financial oversight institutions.
