Turkey plans to boost Military support for Somalia

The Turkish government is reportedly set to increase the military support it provides to the federal Government of Somalia.

The plan reportedly involves discussions between Mogadishu and Ankara aimed at strengthening the country’s security framework, countering the threat posed by AS, and expanding training programs for Somali forces.

According to statements received by Mustaqbal Media from multiple sources, a delegation from the Federal Government of Somalia is currently heading to Turkey. Members of the delegation are expected to meet with Turkish officials and security leaders to coordinate the new initiative.

Turkey is prioritizing efforts to strengthen Somalia’s security, particularly as the African Union Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) faces financial challenges following the earlier announcement by the United States to halt its support.

Somali forces are already operating using modern military equipment supplied by Turkey equipment produced in Turkey. This development has reportedly improved capabilities beyond earlier equipment and vehicles used by Somali troops, representing a visible shift in support and effectiveness.

Key areas of Turkish involvement reportedly include support for Somalia’s Sea, Land, and Air forces, with coordination among these branches described as essential for protecting Somalia’s territory and improving overall national security.

Turkey has long been a close ally of Somalia, supporting its security and capacity-building efforts through sustained cooperation in training, logistics, and defense partnership.

Over the years, Ankara has maintained political engagement and practical assistance with the Somali government, reinforcing ties that go beyond military support and focus on Somalia’s broader stability and development.
