Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi has announced that Somaliland is prepared to implement and sign a maritime agreement recently reached with Ethiopia. In a public address outlining his future goals if re-elected, President Bihi emphasized that Somaliland is pursuing international recognition and is ready to take all necessary steps to achieve this goal.
“The agreement holds significant value for us, and Ethiopia is a key partner with whom everyone is keen to establish relations,” President Bihi stated. “The maritime agreement also plays an essential role in our quest for recognition.”
President Bihi’s remarks come amid considerable controversy over the maritime deal with Ethiopia, which has faced significant opposition from the wider Somali community, who view it as a potential infringement on the country’s sovereignty.
