Somaliland Accuses Federal Government of Political Interference in Sool Region.

The Somaliland administration has sharply condemned the Federal Government of Somalia, accusing it of direct interference in eastern parts of the Sool region, where a major conference is underway to finalize the formation of the new SSC-Khaatumo federal state.

In a statement issued after a high-level meeting in Hargeisa — chaired by Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro) and attended by leaders of major political parties — the Federal Government was accused of launching a “political assault” against Somaliland’s territorial integrity.

“The Laascaanood conference poses a threat to the stability of the Horn of Africa and could become the basis for renewed conflict,” the statement read.

Somaliland reiterated its long-standing position that Sool is an integral part of its territory and declared it would not tolerate federal government interference in what it calls its “internal affairs.”

The statement comes at a tense time as the Laascaanood conference, aimed at finalizing the establishment of the SSC-Khaatumo administration, continues with apparent support — though unconfirmed officially — from the Federal Government in Mogadishu.

The development highlights deepening tensions between Somaliland and the Federal Government over disputed regions, particularly as SSC-Khaatumo gains more political visibility.
