Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, accompanied by a high-level federal government delegation, arrived in Kismayo, the capital of Jubbaland State. The delegation includes the ministers of Defense, Internal Security, Interior Affairs, and top security officials. Their visit marks a strategic effort to enhance counter-terrorism operations in the region.
The visit comes in the wake of a successful joint offensive by the Somali National Army and Jubbaland state forces, which resulted in the elimination of approximately 100 Al-Shabaab militants in the Afmadow district of Middle Juba. The recent military victory has been a significant boost for the region’s security efforts.
Upon arrival, Prime Minister Barre was greeted by Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Madobe. Both leaders, dressed in military uniforms, emphasized their commitment to continuing the fight against terrorism.
During their stay, the delegation is scheduled to hold consultations with state leadership and local communities to discuss strategies for accelerating anti-terrorism operations. The goal is to further strengthen efforts to eliminate Alshabab threats and ensure regional stability.
The visit also follows on the heels of ongoing unity conference of Clerics and religious scholars chaired by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to discuss preaching against extremist ideoligists and unity, support by religious leaders on the government’s war against Al-Shabaab. The initiatives, sources say, underscores the federal government’s ongoing commitment to addressing security challenges and collaborating with regional authorities to enhance the effectiveness of military and counter-terrorism operations.
