Somalia’s Cabinet Approves New National Higher Education Committee

The Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia has officially approved the formation of the National Higher Education Committee, during its weekly cabinet meeting held today in Mogadishu.

The committee, proposed by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education, will consist of 15 members tasked with spearheading the development and oversight of higher education institutions across the country.

The newly approved members are respected scholars and professionals with extensive experience in academia and policy. The list is as follows:

1. Dr. Abdinur Mahamud – Chairperson

2. Dr. Mohamed Ali Farah – Deputy Chairperson

3. Dr. Ayaan Sheikh Abdullahi Mohamed

4. Dr. Ahmed Adam Mohamed

5. Dr. Roble Ibrahim Liban

6. Dr. Abdulqadir Abdulle Cibar

7. Dr. Abdishakur Sheikh Hassan (Fiqi)

8. Dr. Abdullahi Mahamud Sharif

9. Dr. Abdiwahab Ali Mumin

10. Dr. Osman Mohamed Abdirahman

11. Dr. Faisal Abdirahman Abdullahi

12. Dr. Mohamed Macallin Abdullahi Kutub

13. Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Noor

The committee’s core mandate includes enhancing policy direction, ensuring academic standards, and strengthening institutional frameworks for higher education in Somalia.

Cabinet Discusses Institutional Reform and National Security

In addition to the education sector, the Council reviewed ongoing reforms to streamline government institutions in line with legal provisions on inter-agency coordination and decentralization.

Security was another key topic. The ministers were briefed on the latest military operations aimed at reclaiming territories from extremist groups. The Council commended the efforts of both the Somali National Armed Forces and local allied units for their continued sacrifices.

Hajj Services Recognized for Excellence

The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaafta) also received praise for its improved Hajj services this year. The ministry’s management was credited for placing Somalia among the top-performing countries in providing efficient and dignified services to Somali pilgrims.
