The Office of the Attorney General of the Federal Republic of Somalia announced that it has launched an official investigation into a disturbing incident of abuse committed against a Somali girl that has gone viral .
The case, which has been circulating widely in recent days on social media, has drawn strong public outrage.
In a statement issued today, the Attorney General’s office said the incident took place in Mogadishu and described it as heinous, contrary to Somali values, traditional and the country’s code of conduct.
The prosecution also urged all national security agencies to apprehend those responsible and bring them before the court, along with anyone else found to be involved in the act.
The office further warned that individuals who spread and circulate abusive or immoral content online may face legal action.
“We will take firm action against anyone found to have participated in this terrible crime committed against that Somali girl,” the statement said.
The government issued a serious warning to Somali youth who use social media, urging them to avoid acts of misconduct and shameful behavior promoted on the internet, which can lead to severe punishment and imprisonment.
