Somalia: Renowned peace Ambassador killed in Adale, Middle Shabelle

The deceased who was named Muktar Ahmed Mohamed was a  prominent  traditional elder and peace maker and was assassinated in Middle Shabelle’s Adale district on Tuesday.

The deceased was a known peace maker and a key elder in Adow Ulul Region in Adale District and a pillar in resolving disputes between two waring communities in Adale District.

According to media reports at the time of his death the elder was mediating a shootout.

HirShabelle President Ali Gudlawe Hussein and other key leaders  expressed their condolences to the people of the Middle Shabelle area following the demise of the prominent elder.

Efforts to end the fighting was undergoing as a reconciliation meeting that has been going on for the past few days in Adalle District in the Middle Shabelle Region, a preliminary agreement has been reached with the two tribal militias that fought for the areas under Adalle District.

Clan clashes in the Adale district killed over 50  people, destroyed homes in the affected communities and displaced many people from their homes in fear for their lives.

Elders from the Middle Shabelle region have recently been involved in efforts to halt the fighting and bring the warring parties to the negotiating table for a peaceful resolution.
