Somalia Renews Agreement with Chinese Fishing Company

In a bid to boost its fishing sector and combat illegal fishing activities, the Federal Government of Somalia has said it renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese fishing company.

The agreement allows licensed Chinese fishing vessels to operate in Somalia’s waters and catch tuna legally.

Mr. Ahmed Aden, the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources in Somalia, held a crucial meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Fei Shengchao, to finalize the agreement. During the meeting, Mr. Aden praised the Chinese association as valuable partners, acknowledging their commitment to abide by fishing laws and support Somalia’s efforts to develop its fishing sector.

“Chinese association are valuable partners 1st to obtain fishing licenses legally, appreciate their commitment to operate within the fishing laws and combat illegal fishing” said Somalia’s Fisheries Minister

The Mister said that the cooperative move aims to foster mutual benefits between the two nations. In return for the fishing licenses, China has pledged to collaborate with the Federal Government of Somalia and provide support for the development of the fishing industry in the region.
