The President of the federal Government of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with British Ambassador to Somalia Charles King at the Presidential Palace, where they discussed the country’s security and political situation.
During the meeting, President Hassan Sheikh briefed the ambassador on the key issues while also receiving an update on the role Britain is playing in supporting Somalia’s efforts in these areas.
The United Kingdom is among Somalia’s key international partners, providing support to the federal government in strengthening security and assisting state institutions, according to previous statements by both governments.
Britain has also been a major financial contributor to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), which is helping Somali security forces combat militant groups and stabilize the country.
The meeting comes as AUSSOM faces financial challenges that have raised concerns about the sustainability of its operations and the continued support needed to maintain security gains in Somalia.
