Today on Monday the Somali Parliament yet again failed to reach the required quorum of the meeting of the People’s Assembly of the Federal Parliament of Somalia and the meeting was called off.
Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, the second deputy speaker of the People’s Assembly of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, said that 130 members of parliament attended the meeting today, but the quorum was not met as 9 members of parliament were absent to complete the quorum .
The reason for the lack of a quorum, as stated by the second speaker of people’s assembly of the federal government of Somalia is that the Finance Committee, which consists of several MPs, is away on an official training that is taking place in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
Abshirow also indicated that several MPs traveled to the Hir-Shabelle Regional Government this morning and made an appointment before they left but some signed while others just left.
This is not the first time Parliament has faced issues with attendance. Abshirow urged MPs to attend the coming session on Wednesday and future sessions and also indicated the next session might also miss quorum as some MPs are set to travel to Galmudug Regional Government to attend anniversary of the region.
“As from 11:30 AM, there are 130 MPs present, 9 MPs are absent from the session so that the quorum will be complete and the session is called off. Several MPs are on a trip, others travelled to Hir-Shabelle Regional government ” said Abdullahi Omar Abshirow.
