Somalia on High Alert for Imminent Al-Shabaab Threat to Central Prison

The Chief of the Somali Correctional Forces, Gen. Mahad Abdirahman Adan,alias ‘Taliye Shub ‘has revealed that reliable intelligence indicates Al-Shabaab plans to launch an attack on the Central Prison in Mogadishu.

This statement highlights the ongoing threat posed by the militant group as security forces prepare to counter any potential assault.

During a press briefing, the Chief emphasized that the police are fully equipped and ready for any attack on the facility.

He assured the public that if Al-Shabaab attempts a raid, they will face significant resistance from the police forces.

“We receive continuous intelligence reports detailing their planned entry points to rescue their members held in the prison. We are vigilant and will not allow their attack to succeed,” he stated.

The Chief also issued a warning to individuals near the Central Prison, urging them to be cautious. He noted that police are closely monitoring unusual activities in the area and are prepared to act against anyone behaving suspiciously. This proactive approach aims to prevent any potential threats to the prison’s security.

Furthermore, Brigadier General Adan cautioned his officers about the risks associated with excessive use of mobile phones, which could compromise security. He stressed the importance of maintaining focus on their duties and ensuring the safety of both themselves and the public.

The Chief encouraged the police to report any issues or irregularities they observe immediately. This communication he said is crucial for strengthening the defense of important facilities and ensuring the safety of the community against threats posed by Al-Shabaab.
