Somalia: Joint Operations by Somali Federal Forces and ATMIS Underway in Lower Shabelle Region

Reports emerging from the Lower Shabelle region indicate that joint tough operations against ‘AS’ fighters are being conducted by the Somali Federal Government forces and the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).

The operations are reportedly concentrated along the main road connecting the districts of Afgooye and Marka, spanning a large area, according to officials from the Somali National Army (SNA).

During the operations, the forces have reportedly conducted extensive mine clearance along the Afgooye-Marka road, which is a critical route in the Lower Shabelle region, part of the South West State of Somalia.

Various sources have informed Mustaqbal that the Federal Government of Somalia has increased the deployment of forces in Lower Shabelle’s districts and surrounding areas to counter attacks by ‘AS’ and liberated from the areas of the region.

So far, the Federal Government of Somalia has not provided a comprehensive update on the results of the ongoing tough joint operations, nor has the South West State administration, which governs the region, commented on the developments.
