Somalia: Gov’t forces liberate Ruunirgood and Hilowle from AS

The Somali federal government forces have taken control of the Ruunirgood and Hilowle areas in Middle Shabelle Region this morning from Al-Shabaab fighters according to reports.

The report adds that the Somali security forces are currently conducting operations in the areas of Ruunirgood and Hilowle to ensure the security of those areas.

The government forces and the organised local residents known as Macawisley have been in areas sorrounding the areas recently liberated for the past few hours and they finally took control over it in the morning.There was no reports of any loss or conflict in those areas.

The liberation of these areas comes at a time when the Somali government forces and local residents are making the latest moves in organisations of operations in the areas controlled by Al-Shabaab in Galmudug and Hirshabelle administrations.

Somalia’s national army, backed by local organised residents, have gone on the offensive against the group since President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud declared an “all-out war” against the group after his May elect and liberated several key areas from the group in the first phase of operations and now the second phase is underway.
