Somalia: Former President, Prime Minister and MP Abdirahman Abdishakur issues joint statement warning President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of planning term extension .

The former President of the Transitional Government, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, the former Prime Minister of the federal government of Somalia, Hassan Ali Kheyre and MP Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame jointly issue a press release about issues related to the ongoing meeting of the National Consultative Council, warning of planning of term extension that can create political chaos in the country.

The three politicians who strongly oppose Villa Somalia’s plan have warned President Hassan Mohamud to announce an extension, indicating that they will never accept it.

They also accused the president of the federal government of Somalia of hiding under one person one vote elections but his major aim being term extension.

“We declare to the Somali nation and the international community that we will never allow term extension that we rejected yesterday from the former President, and we will oppose in any legal way the desire of President Hassan Sheikh to subjugate the people, using one person one vote elections , but he wants an alternative term-increment, which is a tactic failed by former President ,” read the statement

The press release was also added

” The foundation of any government is based on the application of the constitution and the rule law, and political positions are based on legitimacy. We strongly opposed to the extension of the term that the President is forcing the regional leaders of plotting to extend regional mandates until May 2026 without holding the necessary elections” read the statement.

Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, Hassan Ali Kheyre and Abdirahman Abdishakur also commended the action taken by Jubbaland President Ahmed Madobe of rejecting the plan for an extension.

They also urged other regional leaders, particularly those from Galmudug, Hirshabelle, and South West states, to reject any unconstitutional mandate extensions and prioritize holding timely elections.
