SouthWest state’s Barawe local elections concluded according to confidant sources and Omar Abdullahi Mohamud elected as mayor with 22 votes securing the position of the Mayor.
Ahmed Abdi Yusuf reportedly secured the position of first deputy mayor, and Binti Sayid Bakar Jamal was elected as the second deputy mayor after the tough local elections.
This come after tough and competitive elections and the new leaders recently elected are expected to contribute their vast skills and experience to the town , moving the town into greater heights.
There were cancellation of flights and restrictions on the general movement of the coastal town of Barawe before the elections to maintain the general security of Barawe town according to close confidant reports.
The South West Security Minister, Hassan Abdul Qadir, who talked to the local media indicated that the reason for the suspension of the movement was to maintain the general security of the town ahead of the local the elections, and pointed out that the security forces have maintained stability in the town
