The Federal Government of Somalia is working to resume livestock exports to the Iraqi market following talks between the foreign ministers of the two countries.
Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, and his Iraqi counterpart, Fuad Hussein, discussed the issue during a meeting in Baghdad.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The two ministers also discussed activating the Somalia-Iraq Joint Committee and expanding cooperation in the economic and agricultural sectors.
The proposed resumption of livestock exports is expected to create new opportunities for Somali traders and boost the country’s livestock trade.
The move could also strengthen commercial ties between Somalia and Iraq, opening new avenues for economic cooperation between the two countries.
