Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdisalam Abdi Ali Dhaay met in New York with his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, for a bilateral discussion.
The meeting focused on cooperation between the two countries on security and stability in the Red Sea, a region that has seen heightened activity in recent days involving the Houthi group
Both ministers emphasized that Somalia and Egypt will work together to prevent any threats that may arise in the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa.
Egypt’s foreign minister reiterated that Egypt always stands by Somalia’s independence, unity, and territorial integrity.
Minister Abdisalam on his part thanked his Egyptian counterpart particularly for Egypt’s role in supporting the rebuilding of Somalia.
“We appreciate Egypt’s continued support for Somalia at the political, development and security levels.”he said
The talks come as fighting has reportedly intensified in Yemen in recent days. Yemen is located near the Red Sea, a major route that is important to both Somalia and Egypt.
