Senator Mohamed Ali Yusuf, widely known as Gaagaab, a prominent Somali politician and a member of the Upper House of the Federal Parliament, passed away on Tuesday in Istanbul, Turkey, according to confirmations from his family and colleagues.
Gaagaab was a respected figure in Somali politics, with a career spanning several decades. He previously served as the interim Vice President of Puntland from October 10, 2004, to January 8, 2005.
Following his vice presidency, he was appointed Puntland’s Minister of Finance, a position he held from January 2005 to January 29, 2009.
Throughout his career, Gaagaab was known for his dedication to public service and his efforts to advance Puntland’s fiscal management and regional stability.
