Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, is expected to arrive in Laascaanood later today, leading a high-level delegation from the Federal Government of Somalia, officials said on Wednesday.
Preparations are underway in the city, which serves as the capital of the Northeastern State of Somalia, as authorities intensify security measures ahead of the visit. Local officials say arrangements for receiving the delegation have been finalized amid heightened security across Laascaanood.
The visit by Prime Minister Hamza and his delegation is aimed at reinforcing national unity at a time when the federal government is pursuing diplomatic efforts to counter Israel’s reported recognition of Somaliland.
Officials also confirmed that Laascaanood is expected to host the inauguration ceremony of the President of the Northeastern State, Abdiqaadir Ahmed Aw-Aali (Firdhiye), an event anticipated to draw senior federal and regional leaders.
In addition, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is scheduled to travel to Laascaanood on Saturday, accompanied by a delegation from the federal government.
The visit underscores the federal leadership’s engagement with regional administrations as Somalia navigates sensitive political and security developments.
