Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, at Lusail Palace in Doha on Tuesday to offer condolences following the death of the former Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
According to Villa Somalia, President Hassan Sheikh expressed Somalia’s solidarity with the leadership and people of Qatar during the mourning period, extending his heartfelt condolences to the Amir, the royal family, and the Qatari nation.
The Somali leader paid tribute to the late Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, praising his lasting contribution to Qatar’s modernization and recognizing his enduring support for Somalia’s peace, state-building, and development efforts.
“H.E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a meeting with the Emir of Qatar, H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at Lusail Palace in Doha to offer his condolences on the passing of the Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani,” Villa Somalia said in a statement.
During the meeting, President Hassan Sheikh reaffirmed the strong bilateral ties between Somalia and Qatar and emphasized Somalia’s appreciation for Qatar’s continued partnership and support across humanitarian, development, and state-building sectors.
The visit underscores the close diplomatic relations between the two countries, with Somalia expressing its commitment to further strengthening cooperation with Qatar while honoring the legacy of the late former Emir.
