Somali Officials and Experts Complete Disaster Management Training in China

Somali officials and disaster management experts from the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) have recently concluded an intensive 15-day training program in China, aimed at enhancing Somalia’s disaster preparedness and emergency response capabilities. The training program, which featured hands-on exercises and real-time demonstrations, focused on equipping participants with advanced skills in disaster management strategies, including rescue operations, coordination during natural disasters, and effective emergency response.

In a collaborative effort organized with support from Qatar, the training brought together professionals from multiple countries, including Egypt, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, further promoting regional cooperation and the exchange of best practices in disaster response. This multinational approach allowed participants to gain insights into various disaster management techniques and preparedness plans, reflecting different regional challenges and solutions.

SoDMA officials highlighted the importance of international partnerships, especially in a region prone to climate-induced disasters. By collaborating with countries like China, Somalia aims to strengthen its infrastructure and readiness to better manage the adverse effects of natural calamities.

With Somalia facing issues like drought, flooding, and locust invasions, this training is expected to significantly benefit the country’s ongoing resilience-building initiatives.
