Somali Government Deploys NISA Forces to Frontlines in Hiiraan Region

The Federal Government of Somalia has deployed newly trained forces from the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) to the frontlines of the ongoing military operations against Al-Shabaab fighters

These forces, who recently completed specialized training, have been stationed in the Hiiraan region, central Somalia.

The troops departed from Mogadishu and have now taken up positions in active combat zones. According to reports, they received advanced counterterrorism training and have officially joined military operations aimed at eradicating Al-Shabaab fighters

Sources indicate that the NISA troops have arrived in areas between Buuloburde and Jalalaqsi, where joint military offensives involving Somali government forces and organised local Macawiisley fighters are currently underway.

Close sources report that these NISA units are heavily equipped, with combat vehicles and new operational bases established in the Buuloburde district.

Their primary mission is to play a key role in countering Al-Shabaab fighters attempting to regroup and advance from riverine areas into the Hiiraan region, which falls under the HirShabelle State administration.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who previously bid farewell to the troops before their deployment, emphasized that they would significantly contribute to dismantling Al-Shabaab’s hideouts and command centers.

He noted that the soldiers had undergone rigorous training conducted by the Turkish government, enhancing their combat skills and operational readiness.

The Somali government has been working to reinvigorate its military campaign against Al-Shabaab after a slowdown in recent months.

With intensified operations now underway in multiple regions, the federal government of Somalia aims to exert renewed pressure on the militant group.
