Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, has firmly denied reports that the Federal Government has deployed troops to the contested regions of Sool and Sanaag.
The minister refuted the claims in a brief statement posted on his official Facebook page, calling the reports baseless and unsubstantiated.
“We would like to clarify that the Federal Government has not deployed any troops to the Sanaag or Sool regions. There is no justification for such a move. Individuals accusing the government of such actions have provided no evidence whatsoever,” Minister Fiqi wrote.
His remarks come amid increasing tensions in the region, following accusations from both Puntland FMS and Somaliland administrations that federal troops had been secretly moved into the area in recent days to support local movements.
The city of Las Anod, the provisional capital of the newly emerging SSC-Khaatumo administration, is currently hosting a series of community dialogues.
These meetings aim to finalize the formation of a new regional state encompassing the Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn regions — a move that has sparked political pushback from neighboring regional authorities.
