Somali Forces launch tough operations against Al-Shabaab in Hiiraan

Somali federal forces are conducting tough operations against Al-Shabaab militants in several areas of Hiiraan region, particularly in the eastern parts of the region, according to military officials and local sources.

The forces are working alongside organised local forces known as Macawisley fighters in an effort to counter Al-Shabaab’s growing pressure on communities in eastern Hiiraan, the sources said.

Somali National Army officers said troops were intensifying their operations to repel Al-Shabaab attacks and regain control of areas where the militant group maintains a presence.

The ongoing operations are said to be part of broader efforts to strengthen security and protect local communities from militant activities in the region.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government of Somalia is reportedly planning to deploy additional troops to areas under Hirshabelle State to prevent Al-Shabaab attacks targeting military bases.

Al-Shabaab has reportedly faced growing pressure as a result of these continuous operations, with its fighters suffering mounting losses, reduced freedom of movement, and setbacks in areas it previously controlled.

Security forces say the sustained pressure is limiting the group’s ability to regroup, recruit, and launch attacks, leading to a noticeable decline in its influence and operational capacity in several districts.
