Somali, Djibouti Presidents hold talks to coordinate defense of Somalia’s unity.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Monday held talks with Djibouti’s President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh focused on coordinating diplomatic efforts to defend Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

According to a statement issued by the Somali Presidency, Villa Somalia, the meeting “underscored strong regional solidarity against any attempts to divide Somalia” and reaffirmed continued cooperation between the two countries to “safeguard peace and stability in the Horn of Africa” .

The discussions come amid heightened diplomatic activity following recent developments that Somali authorities have described as a direct challenge to the country’s internationally recognized borders. Both leaders emphasized the importance of a coordinated regional response grounded in international law and respect for state sovereignty.

President Hassan Sheikh and President Guelleh also reviewed broader regional security dynamics, highlighting the need for close collaboration to prevent actions that could fuel instability or undermine ongoing efforts toward peace-building and state reconstruction in Somalia.

Djibouti, a key regional ally and a prominent member of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), has consistently supported Somalia’s territorial integrity. The two leaders reiterated their commitment to working through regional and international forums to uphold these principles and promote dialogue as a means of resolving disputes.

The meeting reflects Mogadishu’s wider diplomatic push to consolidate regional and international backing as Somalia intensifies efforts to defend its unity and reinforce stability across the Horn of Africa.
