The Federal Government of Somalia has approved key bilateral agreements with Egypt and Turkey during its weekly Cabinet session held on Thursday and chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.
According to a government statement, the Cabinet endorsed two major cooperation agreements with Egypt—one “focused on justice sector collaboration and the other on labor migration frameworks, aimed at enhancing legal cooperation and creating opportunities for Somali workers.”
Additionally, the Cabinet approved a memorandum of understanding with Turkey that seeks to” strengthen transport linkages between Somalia and other African coastal states. The agreement was signed on behalf of Somalia by the Ministry of Ports and Maritime Transport and is part of broader efforts to boost regional connectivity and economic integration. It involves collaboration between Turkey’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and ministries responsible for transport and infrastructure in African coastal nations.
During the session, the Cabinet also received a briefing on the recent national dialogue conference held between the Federal Government and the Salvation Forum (Madasha Samatabixinta), which brought together registered political organizations and leaders to consult on critical national matters. The Council welcomed the initiative and commended this and previous dialogue efforts as steps toward national consensus.
The Ministries of Security and Defence, along with the National Freedom Week Committee, also presented reports on the security situation and the Independence Week celebrations, which were widely commemorated across the country. The Cabinet praised the successful coordination and peaceful conduct of the events.
