Somali Army Chief Engages with Italian Military Leaders to Enhance Security Cooperation Against AS

The Chief of the Somali National Army, General Odowaa Yusuf Rage, is in Italy where he yesterday held meetings with senior military officials. The discussions focused on the ongoing combat against Al-Shabaab (AS) and various security-related matters.

During the visit, General Odowaa and his delegation inspected the headquarters of the Italian Defense Forces. They were warmly welcomed by his Italian counterpart, General Luciano Bortolano, who shared insights on military experience and ways to strengthen collaboration between the two nations.

Italian military officials assured General Odowaa that they will continue to provide training and support to the Somali forces. They emphasized the importance of accelerating operations against Al-Shabaab to enhance security in Somalia.

This visit comes at a time when Somalia and Italy are enjoying a close diplomatic relationship, further strengthened by military cooperation. The discussions are expected to bolster efforts in combating terrorism and improving security in the region.

Currently, Italian military personnel, including trainers and advisors, are stationed in Somalia, providing essential support to Somali soldiers. This collaboration highlights the commitment of both nations to work together in addressing security challenges.
