The first round of the Puntland presidential election has been concluded, with President Said Abdullahi Deni leading with 35 votes showcasing strong support from the House of Representatives
Advancing to the second round of elections with president Said Abdullahi Deni are, Guled Salah Barre with 9 votes and Abshir Haruse with 8 votes with both of the them having less than 10 votes with the commission reporting that 66 members participated in the elections.
It is the first time that the president of Puntland has received 35 votes in the first round of elections. It has previously happened in the parliamentary election of the current speaker of the parliament who received 37 votes in the first round.
President Deni is likely to return to the post of president of Puntaland for the second time, and he will be the first president retain to power twice.
