Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has vowed that the Federal Government will continue its military campaign against Al-Shabaab, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening national security and defeating the militant group.
Speaking about the country’s security situation, President Hassan praised the Somali National Armed Forces and organised local forces participating in the ongoing operations against the militants.
He said the government remained committed to sustaining the fight against Al-Shabaab, strengthening national security, advancing state-building efforts and implementing a democratic system through one-person, one-vote elections.
“I reaffirm today that the government is committed to continuing the fight against Khawaarij, strengthening security, accelerating state-building efforts and implementing one-person, one-vote elections,” President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said.
The president also commended the Somali National Army for its continued efforts and bravery in defending the country and protecting civilians.
He stressed that national security forces remained committed to preventing terrorist attacks aimed at undermining peace and stability, describing the militants as a serious threat to the lives, security and existence of the Somali people.
“I also commend the security forces who have selflessly stood against the Khawaarij enemy, which constantly seeks to undermine the will of the Somali people,” he added.
President Hassan further called on the Somali public to support the national security forces, safeguard peace and contribute to ongoing efforts to strengthen state institutions.
His remarks come amid intensified fighting against Al-Shabaab in several parts of the country, where government forces and allied local fighters have reportedly made significant gains.
