President Hassan Sheikh meets U.S. Congressman Darin LaHood to discuss security and economic cooperation

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has received U.S. Congressman Darin LaHood at Villa Somalia for talks focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between Somalia and the United States.

According to Villa Somalia, the meeting “covered a range of issues, including peace and security, counterterrorism, trade and investment, as well as broader cooperation between the two countries”

President Hassan Sheikh reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to deepening international partnerships and thanked the United States government and people for their continued support for Somalia’s peace, security and state-building efforts.

The Somali president also highlighted the importance of creating a secure environment capable of attracting investment and supporting economic development.

The discussions placed particular emphasis on ongoing security cooperation between Somalia and the United States, with the two sides recognising the importance of continued efforts to counter international terrorism and strengthen Somalia’s security institutions.

Congressman LaHood commended Somalia’s progress in rebuilding state institutions, stabilising the country and confronting terrorism. He also expressed his commitment to strengthening relations and cooperation between Somalia and the United States.

The meeting comes as Somalia continues to seek greater international support for its security sector while pursuing economic reforms and efforts to create conditions conducive to investment and development.
