Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is holding a series of separate meetings with officials, lawmakers and community representatives during his visit to Galkayo in Mudug region.
President Hassan Sheikh, who spent Monday night in the city, has been meeting with officials from the Galmudug administration, federal lawmakers and representatives of different sections of the community. Discussions have focused on security in Galkayo and strengthening cooperation to support government institutions.
The meetings come as the President continues a wider land tour of Galmudug, during which he has been engaging local leaders, security officials and residents on national political and security issues.
On Monday, Hassan Sheikh addressed a large public gathering in Galkayo, calling on residents to contribute to efforts aimed at strengthening national unity, social cohesion and Somalia’s state institutions.
The President’s visit to Galkayo follows stops in other parts of Galmudug, where he has highlighted security, political stability and the development of Somali security forces as key priorities for the federal government.
He is expected to continue his engagements in the region before concluding his current tour.
