Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, speaking after meeting Somaliland’s northern representative leader, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Cirro, said that just as Somaliland is seeking international recognition, Israel is also pursuing recognition for Jerusalem (Qudus).
Netanyahu stated during a joint press conference where Cirro stood beside him that Israel is trying to have Jerusalem officially recognized.
“Just as Somaliland is seeking to be recognized, we are also seeking to have Jerusalem recognized,” Netanyahu said.
He added that Israel has been working to gain support from many countries around the world regarding the status of Jerusalem, which Israel controls with significant force.
According to the report, some countries that have reached agreements with Israel have declined to open embassies in the city.
A coalition of 18 Arab and Islamic nations strongly condemned Somaliland’s decision to open an embassy in occupied Jerusalem.
In a joint statement, the countries described the move as an illegal, unacceptable violation of international law that infringes upon the historical status of East Jerusalem as occupied Palestinian territory
