Militia Clash Near Lascaanod Town Over Disputed Military Vehicle

Lascaanod, Sool Region – A clash occurred this morning in the Maraaga area of Lascaanod town, Sool region, involving militia forces from Puntland. The confrontation, resulting in casualties, was sparked by a dispute between two tribal forces over the possession of a military arm mounted on vehicle , a firearm previously dispossessed from the Somaliland army during the war that displaced them from Sool.

The disagreement escalated when one militia force attempted to transport the weapon to Garowe city, leading to a blockade by another militia force, triggering the clash and causing casualties on both sides.

In an attempt to de-escalate the situation, the administration of SSC Khatumo and local intellectuals successfully mediated between the conflicting forces. Ongoing efforts are now focused on achieving a peaceful resolution to the violence.

The conflict originates from the aftermath of the war that forced Somaliland forces out of the Sool region, resulting in the dispersion of weapons among various ethnic groups involved in the conflict.
