Fighting broke out in the Waab-weyn area of Mahas District in Hiran Region, involving organised local fighters known as Macawisley and AS fighters before later involving federal troops.
The clash began after members of AS fighters reportedly killed two local residents who were said to have been targeted in connection with their grievances against the Macawisley .
The incident reportedly triggered an attack on one of the locations where those connected to AS were stationed.
Although no official figures are currently available, the fighting has reportedly caused fatalities and injuries.
Macawisley forces were later reinforced by troops affiliated with the federal government, and reports also indicate that airstrikes occurred though further details are still not confirmed.
In the days leading up to this incident, multiple areas under Mahas District have experienced escalating military activity involving opposing sides aligned with the Somali government, local organised forces known as Macawisley, and AS as tensions continue to rise across the region.
Security agencies have remained relentless in their pursuit of stabilizing the area and combating “AS,” despite the ongoing violence. They continue to monitor the situation closely, aiming to prevent further attacks and limit the spread of the clashes across Mahas District.
