Forces of the South West State have allegedly carried out an attack against positions where Laftagareen allied forces were reportedly stationed on the outskirts of Baidoa as they were said to be getting assistance and intelligence from federal forces.
The fighting is reported to have caused casualties, including both deaths and injuries, although the exact number has not been confirmed.
This is largely because the fighting area had been vacated by local residents who were there at the time.
Officials from the South West forces stated that they captured one of the bases used by the Laftagareen fighters as launch points for their attacks, and also claimed to have taken prisoners.
Forces who are allied to former president Abdiaziz Laftagareen, have reportedly launched repeated attacks on Baidoa and nearby bases.
They stated objective has been to reclaim the regional administration headquarters in Baidoa.
The Federal Government of Somalia has previously announced that its forces have fully taken control of Baidoa town the temporary capital of the South-West State, following previous clashes with forces loyal to Laftagareen.
