Kenya’s Eastern Command Commander, Brigadier General Luka Kutto, has visited Kenyan troops stationed in Kismayo, southern Somalia, as part of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
According to Kenya’s Ministry of Defence, the visit focused on assessing the troops’ operational readiness, security conditions in their areas of deployment and the welfare of soldiers serving in Somalia.
Upon arriving in Kismayo, Brig. Gen. Kutto was received by Colonel Daniel Musau, the Deputy Commander of AUSSOM’s Sector Two.
The commander received briefings from military officers on the operational situation and the challenges facing Kenyan forces deployed in Somalia.
During the meeting, he emphasised the importance of maintaining vigilance, discipline and military professionalism to ensure troops effectively fulfil their assigned duties.
The visit came two days after Kenya marked Defence Forces Day on October 14, an occasion honouring soldiers who lost their lives in military operations, veterans and serving personnel.
Kismayo hosts the headquarters of AUSSOM’s Sector Two, where Kenyan troops contribute to efforts to strengthen security and stability in Somalia.
